How do you convert scanned math worksheets into editable Word documents?

I'm building ImgDoc, a document conversion tool focused on turning scanned images into editable Word documents.

One problem I've found surprisingly difficult is mathematical formulas. Regular OCR can recognize the text, but formulas often end up as broken text or images.

I'm curious how students, teachers, and researchers currently handle this workflow.

Do you use OCR software, manually recreate equations in Word, or simply keep the original PDF/image?

I'd be interested in hearing what works and what doesn't.
