Hi all! I’m Declan, one of the co-founders of Hyperbeam. Hyperbeam is a shared browsing site that helps you nurture your relationships with friends, family, and romantic partners while apart by allowing you to surf the web and watch TV shows and movies together online. My co-founders and I started Hyperbeam as our engineering capstone project at the University of Waterloo in Canada in late 2019, and have since bootstrapped it to over 100K monthly active users and counting! We’re so excited to finally announce Hyperbeam on Product Hunt and we’re incredibly grateful to our amazing team, as well as our customers that have helped us get this far. We hope you all enjoy it and we’re happy to answer any questions! Also, we're giving away one week of Hyperbeam Premium free to Product Hunters! You can claim the giveaway here :D FAQ What is your pricing model? We use a freemium model that allows free users to browse for up to three hours at a time—after which you will need to wait 10 minutes until you can start a new session. Premium costs $5/month and provides you with unlimited session length and a bunch of other perks such as animated profile pictures and custom invite links 😍 Our Product Hunt Launch Experience You can read about our experience launching on Product Hunt in only 48 hours here: Product Hunt: How to Avoid Disaster When Launching in a Hurry

@declan_goncalves This is really cool Declan, we create animated explainer videos for tech solutions like Hyperbeam, do you mind if I send you an email regarding video project together?
Declan Goncalves
@eetu_nousiainen Thanks, Eetu! Absolutely—my email is declan@hyperbeam.com
I have a question: Does the history on the room get deleted once you power it off?
Philip Scott
@sejun_shim Yep! All your browsing data gets wiped after the session ends 💥

Hi all! This product is sick! Really solving a pain point I've experienced. Being an international student in America, I've experienced 3 long-term long-distance relationships. That said, if I had Hyperbeam, maybe the other two wouldn't have failed! :p Looking forward to using this.
Declan Goncalves
@kingalandydy Thank you so much King! My favorite part of building this is hearing how it is genuinely helping people solve a real, important problem in their life. I hope things go well for your future LDRs! :p

Exciting! The design of the website is sick. Very nice to have the option to open Hyperbeam in my browser and not have to download it. I went to check the privacy policy and it's very transparent, love it!
Philip Scott
@pierre_kraus Thank you! We have really wonderful lawyers that we work closely with 😊

@pierre_kraus Thanks, also Telios sounds really cool, now on the waiting list :D

@pierre_kraus Thanks, Pierre! Our designers are happy to hear you love the UI :)

Love using Hyperbeam! So amazing that you've bootstrapped your way to a 10X better product and MAUs than your VC-backed peers
Philip Scott
@jamesskylor Thanks James—It's been super fun building a product customers love 🥰

So... a 1:1 Giggl copy?
Philip Scott
@partydoos Hi Partydoos! A little bit of history: Hyperbeam was originally launched as Tutturu on Christmas of 2019. Here's a link to our launch post on r/RabbitReddit: You can also take a look at our Trustpilot. We have many Trustpilot reviews starting from May 2020. In summary, we've been around much longer than Giggl, and have a significantly larger user base (approximately 10x). Furthermore, we're completely bootstrapped and rely entirely on revenue from our awesome customers! 🥰 Giggl has not yet generated revenue, and is currently reliant on external funding. Lastly, I believe there is an important difference in our missions. Quoting Giggl's Product Hunt launch in 2020: "Giggl is a new way to browse the web online with friends or teams in real-time using virtual browsers. It’s perfect for watching movies, doing research, interacting with your favorite creators and much more, all in complete privacy and security." Giggl is ultimately focused on providing a general solution (virtual browsers) for a multitude of use cases, while we are focused on a specific problem (helping you nurture your relationships with loved ones). We hope this clears things up :)

@scottyfillups Ah alright! Thanks a lot!

Great product! Used it to watch La La Land with a couple friends and unfortunately they hated it. The movie, not the product. Congrats on the launch and hope it comes in handy for even more people!
Philip Scott
@yayimahuman Thanks Harry! You and your friends should watch Steins;Gate! Tutturu~
Declan Goncalves
@yayimahuman I'm sorry to hear that your friends hated La La Land, but glad to hear that it wasn't our fault 😄 Thanks!

This's a great idea, executed well with awesome UI. I had tried with incognito browsers. I noticed ad-blocker was pre-installed with chromium browser(Nice Bonus!). It would be great if you guys can hide all the extensions, so user won't be able to disable it. Would certainly help with CPU/Memory. Also did you look for achieving the same with Brave browser. I bet Brave team would love to see this.
Philip Scott
@mjrulesamrat Thank you! Right now incognito is disabled at the moment since it's not playing nice with the other technologies we're using. We can definitely look into hiding extensions: is there any reason why we want to prevent users from disabling these extensions? Haven't considered Brave, that's certainly a possibility—we picked Chromium since most users are familiar with Chrome/Chromium 😊
Jay Modi
@scottyfillups hiding ads is very useful as it saves CPU/Memory usage for that page. You guys might also have considered those hard limits per session. For that reason only, it would save money if users can not disable some extensions. And hey, congrats on the launch! :)
Philip Scott
@mjrulesamrat I see! Thank you so much for your insight ❤️
