This is a little embarrassing, but I literally built this product for my mom. 😬😂🤷‍♂️ My mom is a registered nurse who started her own nutritional health business over 20 years ago, and she had horribly inefficient methods of ordering products from wholesalers, invoicing her clients, and managing her accounting. Originally, my mom and grandma faxed orders to wholesalers; so, the first iteration of my software simply changed her orders from fax to email. The wholesalers have since upgraded their websites to support online ordering through private portals; however, their upgrades were not enough to move my mom away from my software. First, my mom orders from multiple wholesalers, which none of her wholesaler websites support. Second, none of the wholesaler websites generate a retail invoice for the client. Third, all of the websites are overly complicated for my mom, and my software is simple and intuitive for her. Finally, my software performs all of the accounting for my mom’s business. Ultimately, I wrote software for my mom and her small business, and she relies on it daily. Helm is the latest production-ready iteration of my software. After years of supporting various iterations of custom code for my mom, I decided to make the software publicly available. Best case, maybe there are more people like my mom who can benefit from my software, and I can benefit as well? Worst case, nobody needs my software, but at least my mom has production quality software that is easily maintainable and upgradable. Idk. Doesn’t sound that bad. Hopefully Helm is useful for you or someone you know. I’m interested in any feedback that you have. This is my first attempt at monetizing my software, so I know I have plenty to learn when it comes to building a profitable software business.
