Is AI actually usable for Embedded product firmware yet, or are we all just proofreading?

by

Coding agents have got good at generating embedded code. What they can't do is check whether any of it works on the actual chip — no register state, no rail current, no idea if the last flash even booted. So a human ends up being the sensor in the loop.

Curious how others are handling this. Are you using agents for firmware at all? And if so, what's your verification step — hardware in the loop, manual bench testing, or just reading it carefully and hoping?
