Hello everybody! πŸŽ‰ Our team is here and we are happy to show you Govar There are more than 1.3 billion people around the world are learning English as a second language. Most of them can’t actually speak English. Why? 🀐 It’s impossible to start speaking with no speaking practice 😬 It’s very difficult to find interlocutors outside of the English-speaking world. That’s why we created Govar – the app where every user can speak English with people from different countries every day. How does Govar work? πŸ“± Open the app and choose the meeting πŸ“ˆ Choose your English level πŸ—£ You’ll get into a video call with 3-4 users of the same level from different countries and talk as long as you want. You can use a built-in translator to find right words in your conversation and we help to find topics if there is nothing to talk about. Now we work 6 hours every day but soon we will work 24/7. Several months ago we started from 1 hour per day. Premium account features: - Meetings with native speakers - Possibility to change rooms - Unlimited dictionary - No ads. In future we are planning to add practice in other languages. What language do you think should be added next?

Is there a Desktop version coming soon? Mobile is very distracting for learning anything!
Yajinb Khalifa
@yakibiya_lokachini Same question...
Dzianis Yatsenka
@yakibiya_lokachini yes, we have simple mobile version. I think in a month or two it will be as good as mobile version. You can try it if you push profile icon on the landing page. But you should check the schedule on mobile.
Kanstantsin Slipchanka
@yakibiya_lokachini @yajinb_khalifa Thanks for the questions. We are currently working on the web version. The first version with limited capabilities is already available on the website. Soon all the features available on the mobile will be available at the web as well

That's a good idea! Do you have topics and teachers/mentors? I want to practice public speaking in English!
Alexey Yurkevich
@new_user_127483b6b4 Thanks! No, we don't have teachers on a regular basis, but you can meet natives and practice with them!
Dzianis Yatsenka
@new_user_127483b6b4 I practiced English for public speaking. Sometimes I have to pitch Govar on different competitions in English. Practice in Govar 2-3 times a week helped me a lot. Now I can pitch even with no preparations. And also sometimes we make meetings with native speakers and we are planning to invite teachers with narrow topics in future.

Congratulations on the launch ?makers Love the fact that while users would improve their English, Govar would also end up facilitating a cultural exchange. What does 'Govar' mean btw? Any story behind the name?
Dzianis Yatsenka
@suyash_chaudhari thank you, it's a great question. In the beginning we wanted to make name "iSpeak". But very soon we found that there are too much iSpeaks in the world. That's why we decided to take Belarussian word govar that means "dialect". Then we asked some native speakers to pronounce it and asked their opinion and all of them said that it's a good name. To be honest we had 10 variants but Govar won.
Kanstantsin Slipchanka
@suyash_chaudhari Thank you so much! We started the project with a pilot name iSpeak, but it was too common - there are many "iSpeaks" even in Belarus. Our users would probably find other apps and services with this name. Therefore, we first made a list of names consisting of variations of the words "talk" and "speak". Then came the idea of taking a Belarusian word and transliterating it into English. This gave us 10 names. We conducted a vote among the team and the first 350 users. The winner was Govar. The word "Govar" in Belarusian means something like "conversation". We checked to make sure this name was not taken, and to avoid mispronunciation among foreigners, we asked several English-speaking people to read the name.
Alexey Yurkevich
@suyash_chaudhari Thank you for supporting us! Long story short: we've tried different names, one of the previous - iSpeak. Decided to choose `Govar` as the means `Speech` in the transliterated version of one of the native languages of the founders.
Suyash Chaudhari
Thanks for sharing @alexey_yurkevich @dzianis_yatsenka @kanstantsin_slipchanka This is such a quintessential naming story. Would recommend adding it to your About Us page and on socialsπŸ”₯
Dzianis Yatsenka
@suyash_chaudhari thanks. We will definitely do it!
Hai Ta
I love it! It's bringing the everyone closer together when we can communicate in the same language. Also seems like a great place to make friends across the globe πŸ‘
Dzianis Yatsenka
@hai_ta1 Thank you for your support! Yes, that's true. We have friendship stories in Govar. People from different countries became friends. What do you think what language should we add next?
Hai Ta
@dzianis_yatsenka I'm from Finland so Finnish would be great hahah
Dzianis Yatsenka
@hai_ta1 hahah. Hope in future you will see Finnish in Govar!
Christian Canlubo πŸš€
This is nice! The interactice way of learning is the best feature of this product.
Kanstantsin Slipchanka
@christian_canlubo Thanks for your feedback! Appreciate it! Hope to see you in the app
Dzianis Yatsenka
@christian_canlubo Thanks! that's why we decided to create Govar.

Hi, do you have any successful student cases?
Dzianis Yatsenka
@vladislav_nikolaev thank you, it's a great question! We have a lot of feedback and success stories, I want to tell you about two of them. πŸ‘¨πŸΌβ€πŸ’» Rostislav closed a startup, wanted to get a job in a large IT company and was preparing for an interview. Attended meetings for less than 2 months. After that, he passed 20 interviews, received 5 offers, chose the best one and now works in a company that makes one of the largest messengers in the world. @dzianis_yatsenka , Govar founder and CEO. A year ago my pitch in English was terrible, but this year we already won some pitch competitions😁
Vladislav Nikolaev
@dzianis_yatsenka What level of English did you have before you started using Govar?
Dzianis Yatsenka
@vladislav_nikolaev approximately 5 years ago I had Upper-Intermediate, but than had 5 years pause. During this 5 years I used English only while travelling and in messaging.
Vera Rose
I must say, Govar seems like a fantastic idea! It's impressive how you're providing a platform for people to practice English with peers from around the globe πŸ”₯ How do you ensure the quality of the native speakers in the meetings? Do they undergo some sort of screening process? Congrats on the launch πŸŽ‰πŸ˜Ž
Alexey Yurkevich
@vera_mur Thanks for supporting us! To ensure the quality of the native speakers, we're interviewing them manually to make sure that they fit the best.
Dzianis Yatsenka
@vera_mur the main idea of meetings with native speakers is to give our users possibility to hear native speakers' accent and to realise that native speaker understand users' speech. Also it's a cultural exchange where users can find new information about living in Australia, The USA, England, New Zealand etc.
Dmitry Sytsevich
Hi makers πŸ‘‹ Congrats on the launch of your startup on PH! It looks super! I'll try it πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’» How many users do you have so far?
Alexey Yurkevich
@dmitry_sytsevich Thank you for the support! For now, we're aiming to reach about 10000 installs
Dmitry Sytsevich
@alexey_yurkevich Good luck ✊
Max T.Pham
Wow, Govar is a game-changer for English learners! Defitely will intro to our local community. It's better if you can clear the pricing model at your landing page for visitors. Great job, congrats on the launch Dzianis & team!
Alexey Yurkevich
@maxtpham Thank you Max for your support! We'll work on the landing page to make it more transparent in terms of the pricing model
Dzianis Yatsenka
@maxtpham thank you for your opinion. Govar main functions are completely free. User pay only for additional features such as meetings with native speakers and room changing. But our main idea is to make practice free for all the people who learn English around the world.
Max T.Pham
@dzianis_yatsenka cool, very appriciated that! good luck!
