The site shows the reporting year beside each published figure. Latest available keeps more countries in view, but it can put values from different years next to each other. Choosing one common year makes the comparison easier to interpret, but leaves more gaps.

For a quick comparison of GDP per person or life expectancy, which would you expect as the default: the latest figure for each country with a clear year label, or one shared year with missing values left blank?
