Zombie subscriptions

by

Ran the numbers on SaaS spend at a few companies out of curiosity and honestly wasn't ready for it. Seats paid for months after nobody logged in, three tools doing basically the same job across different teams, subscriptions nobody remembered signing up for!!

Has anyone else actually audited this at their own company?

Ran this on myself once and found three tools doing the same job under different names. The scariest part wasn't the cost, it was that nobody could say who signed up for the third one.

That's the part that gets me too. The cost is annoying but at least it's a number you can fix. Not knowing who signed up, or why, means you can't even ask "do we still need this" to the right person. It just sits there indefinitely because nobody owns the decision to cancel it.

Ended up building a small tool for myself to catch this cross-references spend against actual usage so at least the "is anyone using this" question answers itself instead of relying on someone remembering.
