I mean... when the person spearheading the movement is also poaching OpenAI employees to build a competitor it tells me that it's just companies trying to catch up to OpenAI and get an edge. It's game theory, nobody has the incentive to stop, everyone has the incentive to be the first mover

Disagree. No one had concerns when the worldwide web was on the raise because everyone was in it to win it and had nothing to lose. At the time no one questioned the unlimited data a user could scour through in minutes and then seconds at a time. The web opened the Pandora’s box to virtually every dark side of humanity. chatGPT will better our society but also allow it to crumble when the wrong players are at play. This only a stunt to slow down CGPT and allow its competitors to catch up. New technology is always scary and the things we do not understand or know how they work will will always bring about a paranormal fear. It’s human nature.
