What does social media in the future look like?

Everyday, we are undoubtedly evolving as tech-enthusiasts and I believe social media is going to be a huge disruption in our lives. Do you think technologies like AI, VR, Metaverse would greatly influence the upcoming dimensions of social media. Would love to hear your perspective on what social media holds in the future?

Social media is a great channel for D2C kind of businesses. It is known that 60% of revenue for these businesses comes from social media channels! I firmly believe techs like AI, VR and metaverse brings all together a new experience for the content consumers.

I think AI, VR, and Metaverse can provide much immersive experience. People could actually meet in the virtual world. Also, the VR content on social media would engage many people and provide heightened sense of actually being present in the virtual world. This is such an interesting topic, @janvikaurpanesar. With the Web3 in place, the space in which social media is currently operating would be completely changed, and it would not be confined to just "Like," "Share," and "Subscribe." The perfect example of a web-based social media service is xone.gg, which is built on blockchain and NFTs allowing users to create and share virtual worlds using AR. In terms of the Metaverse, social media platforms in the future will strive to provide immersive, interactive experiences that stimulate as many senses as possible, rather than simply connecting us to our friends.

Pretty interesting - with channels turning into handles, profiles turning into avatar and more. Your customers / followers will own a unique identity on the internet. While the fundamentals by which we target them may more or less be the same - the approach may change significantly. Example: Today, if you are able to make the graphic / content visually engaging (from a 2D standpoint), you can have a great CTR. Imagine a metaverse setting where this content / graphic is also judged on the sense of experience a user has looking at it and hence a completely new dimension that will judge how your CTR will look. Some companies are doing real cool innovations in this space, but it'll take time till a SOP is established!

Of course, we can already communicate in a number of ways via social media. Text, voice call, video call, there's no shortage of ways to keep in touch with friends and family. But imagine you could feel like you were right there, in the room with them? VR technology could make this a reality.

This particular social media trend is pretty controversial, given the evident vulnerability of children to the dangers of the online space. Recently, Instagram announced that they were developing a child-friendly version of their popular social media app, fittingly called Instagram Kids. This platform was intended to be ad-free, so as to not influence children to buy certain products.

I agree. With huge amounts of data being collected every day, it's what we agree to give on social media. Technology is absorbing every inch of it and training itself to become a giant. It is somewhat of a dilemma for users who still keep a primitive mindset, whether to accept the evolving world or stay where they are. But of course, we can't just escape from what's coming next in front of us.

@rupal_sharma3 Agreed. I also think more data will be collected as well. It seems pretty far off for now, but with neuralink on the horizon, advertisers may have access to users' brainwaves in the future to make more targeted advertising decisions.
