Transitioning from client work to building our own SaaS: Lessons learned so far

by

Hey Product Hunt community!

For the past few years, my team and I have operated primarily as a software agency—building custom products, executing client roadmaps, and solving engineering challenges for others.

Recently, we made a conscious shift to start building and launching our own micro-SaaS products.

Transitioning from "service mode" to "product mode" has been a massive learning curve for us. We quickly realized that building the product is only 20% of the battle; understanding user intent, finding distribution, and defining value proposition are where the real work lies.

As we get closer to shipping our very first product on Product Hunt, I’d love to learn from this community:

For those who transitioned from client/agency work to building SaaS: What was the biggest mindset shift or operational challenge you faced?

What’s your #1 tip for first-time makers on launch day?

Looking forward to hearing your insights!

Gazi, the operational shift is the part most people underestimate. Running client work, you always know what today is about, whatever the client asked for last. Running your own product, that structure disappears and you have to decide for yourself what matters right now, with no client deadline forcing the answer. The hardest part is usually not building the thing, it is learning to prioritize without someone else handing you the priority list. Have you found a way to decide what to work on each day now that nobody is telling you, or is it still mostly instinct?
