Switching from Building to Marketing…
by•
I’ve spent most of the year building my consumer app, building gave me something concrete to solve everyday: fix this flow, rewrite this screen, make this feature simpler.
Now that the product is live I’m moving into the part that feels much less predictable: getting people to actually discover it.
I’m testing the unglamorous indie-founder mix: Apple App Store optimization, Pinterest, Lemon8 and LinkedIn… and now here.
For the other indie-founders- what clicked when you started marketing?

Hi Shannon!
As a freelance copywriter, Linkedin was absolutely invaluable for marketing when I first started out, and it still is.
Publishing regularly gave me a chance to:
build my personal brand
build a following
find clients (through inbound marketing and referrals)
receive reviews
connect with people I wanted to do business with
generally build trust with the people seeing my posts.
The other thing that's been helpful has been my career background, as I'd previously worked in digital marketing agencies before going freelance and have built a wider knowledge of marketing to support my copywriting, not to mention written for a wide variety of industry.
I've sent you a connection request on Linkedin in case you need my help at all.
