LinkedIn DMs vs. cold email in 2026 which is actually converting for you?

Been running a lot of outreach experiments lately and the data keeps surprising me.

LinkedIn DMs are getting better reply rates across the board. But cold email still books more meetings when the list is tight and the message is specific.

Cold email inboxes are just flooded right now. AI-generated copy everywhere and buyers have learned to ignore it. Standing out is harder but the upside is still real if you get the targeting right.

LinkedIn DMs feel more personal so people actually respond. The problem is connection request limits and platform crackdowns are making it painful to scale.

The teams I see winning are combining both. Warming people up on LinkedIn and closing on email.

But curious what you're actually seeing out there. Which channel is working better for you right now, LinkedIn DMs or cold email? And if you have reply rate numbers, drop them below. Would love to see real data from real people doing this.

One thing I'd add is that LinkedIn feels more relationship driven , while email is still better for structured business conversations.

This matches what a friend running a B2B agency has been saying. They use LinkedIn for warming up prospects and email for the actual pitch.

Curious are these results mostly from SMB outreach or enterprise? I wonder if the winning channel changes depending on the audience.

I wonder if industry changes the results more than the channel itsels. Some buyers probably spend more time Likkdein while others depend on email. Have you comapred different markets?

I like your point about combining both methods because buyers interact differently. Testing different sequences with the same audience could reveal the best path instead of choosing only one channel.
