How much is “enough” for a Figma handoff?

by

This randomly crossed my mind while working today.

Obviously, this probably depends a lot on the size of the design and development teams and how they work together.

And of course, the more organized a Figma file is before handoff, the better. Flows, states, edge cases, notes — all of that makes things easier for developers.

But getting everything perfectly organized takes a fair amount of design time too.

So I started wondering if it’s actually more efficient to set a baseline for what “ready for dev” means.

Get Figma to that point, hand it off, and handle the smaller details or unexpected cases through conversations during development.

Not saying this is necessarily the better way. I’m just curious how other teams balance the time spent preparing Figma vs. the time saved during development.

Where does your team draw the line for a Figma handoff?
