How many users do you need before you trust your product feedback?

by

When you’re building your first product, it’s easy to become too close to the problem. As the creator, you already understand how everything works, so it can be difficult to notice confusing parts of the experience.

That’s why testing with other people is so important.

But the interesting question is: who should you test with, and how much feedback is enough?

I’ve found that different groups reveal different problems:

  • Experienced builders and designers often notice usability issues, workflows, and patterns that can be improved.

  • Potential users help confirm whether the product actually solves a real problem and feels valuable.

Sometimes the most important insights come from where both groups agree on the same improvement.

I’m curious how other makers approach this:

What makes feedback valuable for you?

  • The number of testers?

  • The type of people testing?

  • Watching how people use the product?

  • Something else?

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from testing your own product?
