How do you handle long YouTube videos when you only need one answer?

by•

I spend a lot of time learning from YouTube, and the long ones (conference talks, interviews, two-hour podcasts) are where I lose the most time. Usually I need one specific answer, but I end up dragging the progress bar around.

What I've tried so far:

- Searching the auto transcript for keywords. It works if I know the exact word they used

- Reading the comments for timestamps. Hit or miss

- Pasting the transcript into a general AI chat. Fast, but I never fully trust it, especially for details and numbers

For people who learn or research this way:

1. What's your routine for long videos? Do you watch at 2x, skim the chapters, or skip around?

2. How do you decide a long video is worth your time before you start?

3. How do you keep what you learned, so you don't have to rewatch it?

Curious to hear what actually works for you.

If the creator doesn't include chapter markers for skimming, I honestly just skip the video entirely if I can't find what I need in the first few minutes.
