How do you get people to actually finish onboarding and training content?

In most teams I talk to, the content exists: videos, docs, a Notion page. The problem is that half of it never gets finished, and nobody notices until something goes wrong. What’s worked for you? Shorter formats, deadlines, nudges from managers, something else?

Manager nudges can help, although I’d rather see training built into the workflow instead of relying on reminders to get people back to it.

Agree with Bradely. What worked for me, though my "team" is mostly an AI coding agent: no single long manual. The rules are split into one short file per area, and the main file is basically a table: working on payments, read this file first. So each piece is read at the moment of the task that needs it, not upfront, and it is short enough to finish. For people I'd try the same shape: tie each piece of content to the task that triggers it, and nobody has to remember to come back and finish anything.
