Has anyone measured whether ChatGPT/Perplexity recommend their product?

I tested 10 prompts like "best tool for X" in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. Our product came up in 2 of 30 answers, and a competitor with less traffic showed up in 14.

Curious how others approach this:

  • Do you track AI mentions at all, or is it too early to matter?

  • Has anything you changed (docs, reviews, comparison pages) actually moved the needle?

  • Is "AI search visibility" a real channel yet, or mostly hype?

The competitor showing up 14 times despite having less traffic is the really interesting part. Traditional traffic clearly isn’t the whole story anymore.

For me, the hardest part would be separating real visibility from random model behavior. I’d probably repeat the same prompts regularly before deciding whether a change actually improved anything.

docs seems like a logical place to start. If an AI system can clearly understand what a product does, who it is for, and how it compares, I can see that helping with recommendations.

AI search visibility feels real to me, but I’m not sure it’s mature enough to treat like a normal acquisition channel yet. The attribution side still seems diffcuilt

We started tracking this manually last month and it is exhausting. Would love a way to automate the prompt testing across models. Is that what you are building?
