Does every company eventually need an AI memory?

by•

I keep wondering whether every company is eventually going to need a company-wide AI memory.

Right now, most businesses have knowledge scattered across docs, Slack, calls, CRM notes, shared drives, and (probably most importantly) the heads of a few people who have been there forever.

That was already a problem for onboarding and operations.

But AI makes it a different kind of problem.

If your team starts working across ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, internal agents, etc., each of those tools needs access to the same company context to be genuinely useful.

Otherwise, we're just giving people increasingly powerful AI and making them re-explain the business every time they use it.

So I'm curious:

Do you think the future is one centralized knowledge/memory layer that every AI tool connects to?

Or will the AI platforms themselves eventually solve this well enough that a separate knowledge layer isn't necessary?
