Cut our weekly team meetings from 5 to 1. Productivity doubled, but I feel totally out of the loop.

We used to run agile standups, syncs, retros, and status updates every single day. I thought it kept everyone aligned. But by month six, our engineers were spending 3 hours a day just talking about coding instead of actually coding.

Three weeks ago, I went cold turkey. We canceled all daily syncs and moved entirely to asynchronous updates via Notion.

The immediate reaction from managers was panic. Over the first two weeks, a few projects stalled because people weren't used to communicating asynchronously. I thought we had completely broken our company culture.

But when I reviewed our sprint velocity report this morning, our shipped features were up 40%. The team was happier, deep work blocks were respected, and code reviews happened faster without meetings interrupting the flow.

Now I'm stuck in a weird headspace. The output looks healthier, but my vanity metric (feeling constantly "in control" and updated in real-time) is gone. For those who went async-first: Did you ever get used to the quiet, or do you still struggle with the loss of daily face time?

Also, did going remote/async change how you hire? I feel like we need to screen for completely different traits now, but I'm not sure where to start.
