Absolutely superb idea Sandro - looks great. Keen to see a PHP/Zend version!

@jan_gianluca Cool avatar #areyoutheJobstoourWoz?

Beta tested it, and it's pretty amazing, since it doesn't have direct access to your data. It's an ember app. Love it.
Sandro Munda
@tibastral Thanks for the love Thibaut! We’re constantly reminded on how good a choice Emberjs was, could not recommend it more highly for data-heavy applications!

Exciting potential. May want to review admin interface in iOS Chrome though. "Public beta" alert takes up the entire screen - can't demo it.

@joe_legnd Hey Joe, sorry about that. Forest is definitely not ready to shine on mobiles I’m afraid, but a fully-fledged mobile app is in the pipeline! We can only do so many things at once 🙂

@seyz_ Ah, makes sense now. Took a closer look (on desktop). Very cool idea and it looks great. Look forward to trying the PHP implementation.

This looks cool! I've used Adminium (https://www.producthunt.com/tech...) before and really liked it...especially b/c it was a simple Heroku add-on that was a breeze to use with my heroku apps. @seyz_ can you comment on the where Forest excels over Adminium? And whether or not you'd have plans to make it a heroku add-on for users like me?
Sandro Munda
@msaint Forest focuses on providing an admin interface that’s sleek, intuitive and empowering your non-technical users, which is where the comparison stops IMO. We plug into your existing application, allowing you to have business-specific logic available such as comment moderation, vouchers management and so on; whereas Adminium only taps into your database, basically doing the same stuff PHPMyAdmin did in its time for MySQL. An Heroku add-on definitely is in our roadmap, no timeframe regarding its availability has been set though 🙂

Great idea! Would this be something that could be used in a bigger operation with... let's say 500 admins? Or is this asking too much? :)
Sandro Munda
@lindeberg Hey Jonas, we’re obviously not going to say no to such an interesting offer! 😉 In all seriousness, because of the way we architectured Forest, if your current setup is able to withstand that many people, there will virtually be no difference using our product. Let’s have a chat to see how Forest could fit at Saltside!

This is really fantastic, getting started was simple (documentation is a little lacking but wasn't hard to get into it) however I am having a hard time to get smart views to work. (This is honestly one of the most useful parts of it). We would definitely go for a pro plan but my concern is support. I saw no support links and I absolutely already needed it. This will save us a ton of time hopefully. We were going to just implement a broken version of active admin but this seems promising. I'd love to clear out the issue I have and take this to production. It would be great if someone from Forest could contact us to get it squared.
Vincent Ghyssens
@mitchellgeere I've sent you an email! Sorry about the troubles regarding support, we are aware and are working towards implementing a solution to cater precisely to that point. Should be fixed soon! In the meantime you can always reach us at support@forestadmin.com

@vincentghyssens @forestadmin thanks man, just replied

Background reminds me of Firewatch (http://www.firewatchgame.com/)

So this is not opensourced? What do I need to pay for? Any better/difference than the free ActiveAdmin for Rails?
Sandro Munda
@mirmayne Hey Daveyone, happy to clear that out! We've open sourced the connectors that are installed on your machine to get Forest running, those are obviously free to use regardless of whether you're a customer of our solution. Those basically introspect your application schemas and set up a REST API that is then consumed by our interface. What you pay for is precisely this interface, where you actually manage your data and makes up the front-end of your admin. Regarding ActiveAdmin, we're adding value in a numerous ways but the more prominent are: no DSL, we empower as much as possible non-technical users so they can customize the interface without the tiring back-and-forth with the devs, dashboards that automatically present you with your operations' data, and third party integrations (Stripe, Intercom, etc.) so you can retrieve and action those data from one single entry point. Try it out, it's free forever on your dev environment :)

Love how customizable it is, plugged directly into the application and at the same time, how safe it is, never accessing my data, pretty cool tool to get an admin panel up and running in a flash

Pros:

up and running in a flash with all the features you expect from an advanced admin panel

Cons:

NA, I am happy with it
