Focus Limit - Tap Cap, Groups & Focus Sessions

by
Most tab tools do one thing — Tab Wrangler closes idle tabs, OneTab collapses them, Session Buddy saves them. Focus Limit does all three, plus what none of them do: a real tab limit (hard or soft) with automatic category grouping and timed focus sessions — designed to feel calm, not punishing. Hit your limit and get a friendly dashboard with snooze options, not a scary block. Runs entirely locally. Free, no paywalls, no accounts. Built for people who lose focus in tab clutter, not against them.

Hey everyone, I built Focus Limit because my own tab bar had become a problem I could not ignore anymore. I would often have thirty or forty tabs open at once, half of them forgotten, my laptop struggling to keep up, and my actual focus scattered across all of it. Every existing tool I tried handled only one small piece of that problem. Something would close idle tabs. Something else would collapse them into a list. Another tool would let me save sessions, but nothing tied all of it together. The idea started small. I just wanted something to stop me from opening an eleventh tab. But the more I used that, the more it felt like punishment rather than help. So the idea grew into something calmer. Instead of simply blocking new tabs, I added a dashboard that shows everything you have open so you can close one with a single click. I added a one time pass for moments when you genuinely need more room, along with snooze options for times when you are doing something that honestly requires several tabs at once. From there it grew further, adding automatic grouping by category, idle tab cleanup, timed focus sessions, saved sessions you can restore later, and even a quieter new tab page. Every piece was built around one idea: help people manage their tabs without making them feel bad about having too many. It is completely free, with no accounts and no paywalls. If you find it useful, a coffee is always appreciated but never required. I would love to hear how you manage your own tab chaos, and what you think might be missing here for your own workflow.

Love the calm, non-punishing angle here, feels way more humane than most tab managers. One thing I'd love: let me save a "focus preset" that combines a tab limit number with a specific category grouping rule and session length, then toggle it with a single keyboard shortcut so I can switch between deep work, research mode, and casual browsing without re-configuring each time.

Love the calm approach instead of slamming the door on you. One thing I'd suggest: a quick way to whitelist certain sites from the tab limit, like my music tab or a reference doc I'm actively using, so the dashboard only nudges me about the tabs that are actually distracting.

Love that this runs locally and skips the punitive route - the snooze dashboard alone would win me over. One thing I'd love to see: keyboard shortcuts to quickly whitelist a tab for the rest of the day, so I don't have to click through the dashboard every time I open something research-related.

Love that hitting your limit opens a friendly dashboard with snooze options instead of slamming the door. That kind of small UX choice is what makes a tool like this feel like it was built by someone who actually has too many tabs, not someone trying to virtue signal productivity.
