What if a productivity app’s best outcome is that you close it?

by

Digital detox is having a moment. Searches for “how to digital detox” have risen 110% this year, while people are also looking for hiking, running clubs, adult tennis lessons, and ways to meet others nearby.

That raises an interesting product question: should every app optimize for more screen time?

For tools related to habits, motivation, and personal goals, perhaps the best outcome is different:

  • Open the app

  • Set one clear intention

  • Get a little human support

  • Leave the screen

  • Actually do the thing

That idea shapes how we think about Focido. We do not want productivity to become another endless feed about productivity. A goal matters only if it turns into action outside the app.

What makes you return to an app because it genuinely helps your life, not just because it is good at holding your attention?
