Living in slack for my day to day work I've grown accustomed to using  syntax when typing messages, specifically emojis! I also use X (Twitter) almost exclusively on Web. I'd always type out an emoji like ":joy:", be disappointed that it didn't automatically convert to an emoji, erase it, have to lift my hand off the keyboard to use my mouse, click on the emojis icon, search for the emoji I wanted and click it. So I thought "You know what would be cool? Being able to use  in tweets. would love a little extension to allow me to do that" And I spent the next 5 hours building https://emotixr.com. Submitted it for review in the chrome web store that evening and the rest is history!
