Elysia AI: What would make a privacy-first, local AI companion worth using?

Hey everyone!

My name is Bradley, and I'm the founder of Elysia Ecobotics, an independent project I'm developing through EcoSyneva Commons LLC.

I've been working on something called Elysia AI, a free, local-first artificial intelligence companion built around privacy, user control, transparency, and responsible use of AI.

One of my biggest goals is to build an AI system that genuinely works for its users, rather than making people dependent on subscriptions, surrendering their private information, or giving an AI unrestricted control over their devices.

Elysia is designed around user approval, governed tools, and keeping personal information under local control. The broader vision also includes scientific research, environmental engineering, ecological data science, and tools that can support meaningful work in the real world.

Elysia v1.1.0 is already available for supported Linux systems, although there's still plenty of development ahead. I'm currently preparing for her official Product Hunt launch, and I'd love to start getting to know the community before then! By the time we actually launch I might even have a newer version for everyone to try!

But I'm curious about something.

What would actually make you want to try a local-first AI companion?

Is it privacy? Having more control over what your AI can do? Scientific or development tools? Being able to use AI without sending everything to someone else's servers? Or is there something entirely different you feel existing AI assistants are missing?

I'd also genuinely appreciate hearing your frustrations with current AI products. I want to build something useful, not just another AI application competing for attention.

If you're curious about the project, you can explore it here:

Thanks for reading! I'm looking forward to hearing what everyone thinks, including the criticisms.
