When using macOS, I love switching apps to full-screen mode. However, with multiple full-screen apps, it can be inconvenient to find things, especially when I need to use large-scale question-and-answer models. Switching interfaces frequently can be a hassle. That's why I developed Duck Float. It floats above full-screen apps and supports file browsing, text storage, clipboard management, and web browsing. You can quickly show or hide it using keyboard shortcuts or by clicking the icon in the menu bar. When you have multiple monitors, it follows your active window, always ready when you need it. Features: 📁 File Browsing In addition to the usual viewing and opening of folder contents, it also supports previewing and dragging. • When writing documents, you can preview a PDF anytime, anywhere. • While in full-screen browser mode, you can drag files through Duck Float to upload files or download images. 🔗 Text and File Links Drag files from different folders to create links, enabling quick access to files across various paths. Temporary texts can also be pasted here for editing and copying. 📋 Clipboard History It records clipboard content, allowing you to filter by content type or search text content by keywords. 🌐 Web Browsing You can browse the web with Duck Float at any time while using any full-screen mode software, making it super convenient.

To clarify, Duck Float, like a ninja, will only follow the full-screen app you focus on, and will not create an interface for each app. Considering that it will always run on the computer, I used SwiftUI recommended by Apple to develop it, so that it can keep the memory and CPU usage as low as possible.

Congratulations on the launch! Your hard work and dedication are truly inspiring. When using Finder, can files be dragged out of Duck Float into another screen or window where I want to drop them? This would be a very handy feature to minimize switching between interfaces.
Chris Yi
@xeniama Thank you! Yes, you could drag content from Finder to any screen.

Running multiple full-screen apps already tends to consume significant system resources. Does Duck Float have a noticeable impact on system performance or battery life?
Chris Yi
@thomas80 Duck Float is the same as other apps, except that it can float on top of the app without incurring any additional performance overhead.

Are there any plans to expand Duck Float beyond macOS to other platforms, such as Windows or Linux? This could greatly broaden its user base.
Chris Yi
@tucker1 To be honest, considering that this app is likely to run for a long time on the user's computer, I chose SwiftUI to develop it to ensure that it has low performance consumption, saves power, and does not take up a lot of memory and CPU. If it is popular, I am happy to conduct technical research on the feasibility of other platforms.

Hey Chris, I'm curious about performance. Does it impact system resources much when running on top of other full-screen apps? Are there any plans to expand beyond macOS to other platforms? Congrats on the launch!
Chris Yi
@kyrylosilin Thank you! It has the same performance as a normal APP, with no additional performance overhead. There are no plans to develop other platforms at the moment.

This is a fantastic concept, @ruyicode! The challenge of juggling multiple full-screen apps can be real, and it sounds like DuckFloat is addressing that pain point seamlessly. The ability to preview files and manage clipboard content while remaining in a full-screen environment is a huge step towards enhancing productivity for users. I also love the implementation of drag-and-drop functionalities! It adds such smoothness to workflow, especially for tasks requiring quick file uploads or downloads. The text storage and linking feature is particularly interesting; in today's fast-paced work environment, having everything centralized and accessible with just a few clicks can significantly improve efficiency. If you are looking for traction on this launch, have you considered an AMA to engage with the community about the use cases and gather user feedback? It could drive some great insights and maybe inspire additional features. Excited to see how DuckFloat evolves!

Congratulations on the launch @ruyicode 🎉🎉 Thanks to your product I don't have to switch between different desktops. Couple of questions though, say when you're using finder for example will I be able drag files out of DuckFloat into the other screen where I want to drop files? Also can you add other shortcuts apart from the four that are provided out of the box? Thanks for working on this! Cheers!
Chris Yi
@mihir_srivastava Thank you! Yes, you could drag files to another screen. Of course, I will continue to develop new module features.

It's great to see a tool that helps with multitasking by floating over full-screen apps. One suggestion I would be to include a dark mode option for those late-night work sessions.
Chris Yi
@peter_victor Thanks for your suggestion, currently it will show light or dark mode depending on the system settings, allowing users to manually select the theme is a better idea.
