Why I hate Miro !!!!!!(and what I built instead)
Okay, “hate” is a strong word. I’ve used Miro for years and it’s a great product. But as a DevOps engineer, it kept getting in my way, and eventually I got annoyed enough to build my own tool. Here’s what pushed me over the edge:
1. My architecture diagrams were always lying.
I’d spend an hour dragging boxes and arrows into a beautiful infra diagram. Two sprints later, half of it was wrong. Nobody updates a hand-drawn diagram after a Terraform change. The diagram and the system drift apart, and the board quietly turns into fiction.
2. Everything is manual.
I already have the truth in code: Terraform state, Mermaid in the README, Markdown docs in git. Yet I still had to redraw all of it by hand on a canvas. Copy-pasting from reality into a whiteboard felt backwards.
3. Presenting a board is awkward.
Frames-as-slides works, but walking people through a diagram step by step, highlighting one path at a time, means building a dozen frames by hand. And then you have the same content in two places.
4. My AI agent couldn’t touch it.
I do a lot of work with Claude and other agents now. I wanted to say “draw the current infra and make a 5-slide review deck from it” and have it just happen on the board my team was already looking at.
So I built Doska (getdoska.top). It’s a whiteboard where diagrams can come from code:
🧩 Diagrams as code. Mermaid and Terraform turn into a clean, auto-laid-out board. Change the source and the diagram follows.
My AI agent couldn’t touch it.
📄 Docs from git. Markdown files sync into Doska and stay in sync.
🎞 Presentations from the board. Step through a diagram node by node, morph transitions, live polls and Q&A from the audience’s phones, and a phone remote.
👥 Real-time collaboration, like you’d expect.
It’s not trying to replace Miro for every workshop and sticky-note session. It’s for teams whose source of truth lives in code and who are tired of redrawing it.
Curious about your side of it:
What’s the one thing that annoys you most in Miro, FigJam or Lucid?
Do your architecture diagrams actually stay up to date? Be honest 😅
Happy to answer anything, and roast the product too. That’s the point of launching.
