Has anyone actually measured how much time gets lost in handoffs between GTM tools?

by

Not the "we estimate roughly X hours" version. The real measurement.

I started tracking this for our own team a few months ago. The categories that showed up most:

- Re-keying the same information between the CRM and the content tool

- Rebuilding the same performance report in a different format for a different stakeholder

- Following up on whether something actually shipped vs was just drafted

- Writing status updates about work instead of doing work

The rough estimate I keep landing on is that handoff overhead consumes somewhere between 15 and 25 percent of a typical GTM operator's week. That does not count decision latency, just the actual transfer time.

Has anyone run this calculation properly for their team? Curious what the actual numbers look like in practice.

We tracked this too. 15-25% checks out. But worth noting: re-keying/reformatting is an integration problem, easy fix. "Did this ship" and status updates are a trust problem - people don't lack data, they lack confidence it's current. Harder to solve. We built a small tool that answers status by reading source systems directly, and it killed most of that second category.

We measured something similar and the biggest surprise wasn't the time spent moving data—it was the context lost at every handoff. Every transfer creates another opportunity for duplication, clarification, or waiting. The direct time is measurable, but the hidden cost is the momentum that disappears between tools. I wouldn't be surprised if the real impact is higher than 25% for many GTM teams.
