DockDuck 1.1.9 is out 🎉

by•

This release is about keeping things in order: tabs that sit together in groups, folders that open right in the list, and iPhone photos that arrive already sorted.

Tab groups

Put a folder in a group from its tab's menu, and give the group a name and a color. Its tabs then sit together, and any tab that opens that folder joins the group. Click the group to fold its tabs out of the way, or close or ungroup it from its menu. You can turn groups off in Settings, General.

Folders open in place in the list

Click the triangle next to a folder, or press the right arrow, to see what is inside without leaving the folder you are in. Press the right arrow again to go into it, and the left arrow to fold it or come back out. Option-click opens or closes every folder inside at once. When you scroll deep inside, a small bar at the top names the folders you are in and takes you back to them.

iPhone photos arrive sorted

Plug in your iPhone and the Import menu sorts the photos into folders by day, month, trip, place or kind. Before anything is copied you see every folder and how many photos land in each. A Live Photo stays with its video, photos you already imported are not copied again, and each iPhone or iPad keeps its own choice.

Folder rules work with DockDuck closed

When a file lands in a folder with rules, they tidy it right away even if DockDuck isn't open, and a notification tells you what they did. Anything they did can be undone from the folder's history.

Also new

  • All Tags lists every tagged file in one place, with a Tags column to sort them.

  • Updates download in the background and install when you quit DockDuck.

  • Network drives connect again on their own when your Mac wakes up.

  • The gear at the bottom of the sidebar lets you choose which sections and places it shows, and in what order.

  • A reload button in the path bar reads the folder again.

  • Contact support and Report a bug open a form right inside the app.

  • On a server, your Mac and the server each show their folders as a tree beside the list.

Fixed

  • Esc now skips a file when a name is taken, and cancels the questions at the bottom of the window.

  • Command W on the last tab closes the window, as in Safari.

  • The column view works from the keyboard again, and a new window takes the arrow keys right away.

  • Holding an arrow key through a large folder is much smoother in every view.

  • A network drive that stopped answering can no longer freeze DockDuck, and network folders open quickly right after connecting.

  • An external drive that isn't APFS no longer shows as full.

  • An iPhone no longer looks empty after another app used it.

  • And many smaller fixes, in all 19 languages.
