An Agent cannot truly work for you if someone else controls its context
As we built Dirextalk, I kept returning to one question:
Who should an Agent answer to, and who should own the context that makes it useful?
An Agent becomes useful when it understands your real context: who you communicate with, what has already been discussed, which decisions were made, what remains unfinished, and which actions you have authorized.
Communication is one of the richest sources of that context.
But today, most of it is controlled by platforms.
A user may be able to download an archive or access a limited API, but that is different from giving a chosen Agent continuous, permissioned access to conversations, relationships, channels, and communication tools.
This creates the first problem:
Users generate the context, but platforms control whether and how their Agents can use it.
There is also a second problem.
A platform may offer its own Agent and give it access to more of the user’s data. But that Agent is still operated under the platform’s rules. Users may have limited visibility into what it reads, what it transmits, how long the data is retained, whether it is reused, and whether it contributes to training.
The more context an Agent receives, the more useful it can become. But if the user does not control the Agent or the context, greater intelligence can also mean greater platform control.
So simply adding AI to a centralized communication platform does not solve the underlying problem. It may deepen it.
The architecture we need is different:
A user-controlled Agent working with user-owned communication context.
This is the idea behind Dirextalk.
Each user has a personal communication node. That node is the authority for their identity, relationships, messages, permissions, and Agent access.
The user decides:
What the Agent can read
What it can transmit
What it can retain
What actions it can perform
Which actions require confirmation
When access should be revoked
Dirextalk includes the native Agent Ying, while also allowing users to connect an Agent they already use. The goal is not to force everyone into one model or one AI provider. Models, devices, and cloud providers can change. The user’s data boundary should remain under the user’s control.
With authorized communication context, an Agent can do more than generate replies. It can find contacts, retrieve previous discussions, summarize relevant information, coordinate communication with multiple people, and carry unfinished tasks across devices.
This is not only about keeping messages private.
It is about giving people intelligent communication capabilities without requiring them to surrender the context that makes those capabilities possible.
Data sovereignty does not mean data can never move. It means the user decides when it moves, where it goes, why it is needed, how long it is retained, and what it may be used for.
That is the foundation we believe Agent-era communication requires:
Your communication context belongs to you.
Your Agent answers to you.
Your node remains the authority.
That is what we are building with Dirextalk.
