Great that you are focusing on the community tier yet to try it but I will keep it in my toolkit for the next project 🚀
Jonathan Wagner
@arunpariyar Thank you! Look forward to hearing about your experience when you start the next project.🙌
Ben Haynes
@arunpariyar Nice! Yeah, we're all about building powerful tools that devs really need... but no matter how amazing a platform is, it's worthless if no one knows about it. As a small company, there's no better way for us to get broader exposure than to give our premium away for free! A rising tide lifts all ships..., so as our developer community grows, we'll always have new ways to monetize. Product first, baby! 🤘 Let us know what you think once you give Cloud a whirl!

Simply great, I'm not a developer, but at least I was able to create something close to an application to keep track of a database for students of the institute where I work, I still haven't finished the project completely but I like the progress I have made so far, I've done it using the admin app which has directus by default, but I've seen people on the Discord channel doing great things with Directus. Congratulations on the launch of Directus Cloud and continue your success.
Jonathan Wagner
@uebmaster Thank you for the kind words! Our team and community are committed to making the power of a SQL database accessible for technical and non-technical users. Keep us posted on your progress! Cheers!
Ben Haynes
@uebmaster Thanks, Yan — that's super exciting! While we're certainly focused on building great "developer tooling", we're all about democratizing data access. It's great to hear that you were able to build something meaningful without any engineering experience. 👏 We'll certainly be focusing more on enabling non-technical users as we grow, as there's a big no-code data market out there (eg: AirTable) that needs more robust solutions. In the meantime, I'd love to hear more about any technical hurdles you came across while building!

Congrats on the launch, @benhaynes – really love seeing the move from CMS-focused to a more generalist data platform that's easy to consume and takes care of a lot of the headaches everyone has for each of their projects!
Ben Haynes
@tobiasurff Appreciate it, Toby — with so much history in the content category, it's a difficult transition to make, but we're not looking back. We've recently found ourselves aligning with the backend-as-a-service category, where we can offer a strong foundational data layer (especially with the upcoming Data Flows). Of course, our no-code data collaboration app pushes us way beyond BaaS, so it's still interesting trying to succinctly describe all the things Directus does. A good problem to have! 🙌 Any more data-specific features or capabilities you've been wishing for?
Batuhan
Congrats on the launch! We use Directus on productions for almost a year and it's the best decision that we've ever made! I can clearly say that it's the most complete and affordable product on its market.
Ben Haynes
@batuhanbilginn That's awesome to hear!! I should connect you with out Marketing Manger for a case study! 📢 Assuming you're on-prem, are there any big capabilities that you are missing on Cloud? Or pricing targets? We're always looking for ways we can improve our Cloud offering! 👍
Basharath
Nice product. Congrats!
Ben Haynes
@basharath Thanks! If you're building a cool product per month, I know a good data service you can use to power things. 😉
Vivek Katial
Woah sounds like an epic product! @jenny_sahng wonder what you think? Congrats on the launch yall
Ben Haynes
@jenny_sahng @vivekkatial Thank you!! There's been an equally epic amount of work by our core team and contributors to get here — they'll be so happy to hear comments like this. 🥰 Also, I too want to hear what @jenny_sahng thinks! All data scientists welcome! 😃
Jenny Sahng
@vivekkatial @benhaynes Haven't heard of data stacks as a service, but it makes sense now that I'm seeing one! I'd definitely be interested in using this for small projects in the future. I suppose things like data lakes/analytics environments can sit on top of the SQL database? I think @kanocarra would be interested from a backend dev perspective!
Ben Haynes
@vivekkatial @kanocarra @jenny_sahng First off, I kinda just made up "data stacks as a service"... we're closer to a backend-as-a-service, but then our whole no-code data collaboration app seems out of place. 🤷 Directus can be installed on top of any SQL database, so as long as your source is SQL, you can get an instant API and app for management/visualization. It's all done through no-touch introspection, so it works with any schema and your single-source-of-truth dataset stays pure and unaltered by our platform. 👍 Haha, @kanocarra, you're up next! Let's get the backend perspective! 😄
Hunter Becton
I came across Directus awhile back and was genuinely surprised. It was a please to use!
Ben Haynes
@hunterbecton We get that a lot! We're super proud of our product and this new cloud service... our goal now is just to broaden awareness so we can continue to surprise more devs like yourself! 🥳
Meagan Campol
Directus just keeps getting better and better! Thanks to the team for making an amazing product.
Ben Haynes
@meagan_campol 🥰 Thank you for your support!
Maciej Pędzich
Apart from the amazing free tier, Directus has a brilliant community behind its back. It's one of the first CMSes to offer Nuxt 3 support thanks to a "third-party" module, which still got its dedicated tutorial article up on the official Directus blog. So stoked to see a company value all these contributions, which have ultimately led me to use it for my own blog. I simply couldn't recommend Directus enough
Ben Haynes
@maciej_pedzich Thank you! We're lucky to have such an awesome community (you included), it makes it so much more exciting since we get to hear about all the cool things getting built with our platform. There are many use cases for Directus (including Headless CMS), so we're always looking to add more guides to showcase various integrations... Nuxt 3 was at the top of our list! 🙌
Maciej Pędzich
@benhaynes Great to hear that! Congratulations on the Product Hunt launch once again

The product itself is great, we've been using it in production for a few months now in the Cloud using the Standard plan. The only issue I had so far is with a couple of versions deployed with some kind of issue that impact us directly and interrupt our business. I believe that we could have the ability to disable automatic updates for a project that is critical to avoid surprises such as changes in features or unexpected bugs. Other than that I'm very happy with it so far. Nice job.
Ben Haynes
@rafmsou Thank you! Yes, you can disable auto-updates on Enterprise... we'll look into that for other tiers. We're also really pushing tests to ensure there are no/fewer regressions. A difficult balance of features, fixes, and tests... we only have so much time in the day! :)
Rafael Sousa
@benhaynes Yea, I got it. It's really difficult to ship so many features in a very fast pace like you guys are moving. I don't expect it to be perfect at this stage, there's no combination of unit/e2e/regression tests that you can write to catch all issues due to the amount of use cases the product allow us to have, however, one way to minimize it might be to allow all paying customers to opt out of the automatic updates, like you're saying you're considering. I'd be immensely happy with it.
Ben Haynes
@rafmsou Yeah, it's a balance... we allow pinning versions on Enterprise, but then you end up with issues with SLAs etc, because some versions will get outdated. And then security patches aren't getting applied. It's a complex problem to solve, but I agree it needs a better solution. We currently ship to OSS first, and delay cloud releases by a week to get a LOT of eyeballs on the release and identify any glaring issues before it goes to Cloud. Appreciate this dialog though... really helps us find ways to improve the ecosystem! 👍
Rafael Sousa
@benhaynes Thanks for taking the time to explain that, really appreciate. One option as well could be to increase this delay a bit if its proving to be unsufficient.
