Launch Day🎉

by•

What a day. detectly officially launched on ProductHunt today.

Quick recap for anyone just finding this. detectly automatically detects near-miss incidents from dashcam footage. Tailgating, cut-ins, hard braking, pedestrian hazards, lane drift. Every incident gets an annotated clip and every driver gets a risk score. No new hardware needed.

I built the whole thing solo over the past few weeks, the ML pipeline, the dashboard, billing, everything. Today’s been about getting it in front of as many people as possible and hearing what they think.

A few honest takeaways from today:

The feedback has reinforced something I keep hearing in fleet manager conversations too. Most incident handling in this space is reactive, not proactive. Footage gets captured but rarely turned into anything useful before something goes wrong. That’s the exact gap detectly is built to close.

Genuinely grateful for everyone who upvoted, commented, or just took a look. If you haven’t checked it out yet, would love for you to take a look and tell me what you think.

The gap between 'here's your risk score' and 'here's a coaching conversation' is where most of these tools drop the ball. The score without the follow-through just creates anxiety for managers. Would love to see how you approach that when you build it! The human side of that workflow is probably harder than the ML.

@satchmo_saunders Completely agree, that's been on my mind a lot. The risk score on its own is just data, the value is in what a manager actually does with it. I think the human side is genuinely the harder problem, way harder than the detection itself. When I get to building that out I'll definitely be coming back to this thread for input, really appreciate the perspective.

@detectlykieran Looking forward to seeing how you approach it. Good luck with the launch. Exciting times.

Congrats, Kieran. Solo across the ML pipeline, dashboard and billing in a few weeks is genuinely impressive. And the reactive-vs-proactive point is spot on, footage sits there unused until it's too late, in way more industries than fleets. Closing that gap is a strong wedge. Curious, once a risk score climbs, does detectly nudge a coaching moment, or is it dashboard-only for now? Rooting for you today. 🙌

@kunalsharda Thanks so much, really appreciate that! Right now it's dashboard-only, the risk score and incident clips are there for the fleet manager to review and act on. Driver coaching workflows are something I've been thinking about a lot though, especially turning a flagged incident into an actual conversation with the driver rather than just a number. Definitely on the roadmap, just not built yet. Appreciate you rooting for us today!
