Crazy Sajangnim: Bringing Korean Sale Culture and Social Shopping Together

by

Online shopping gives us access to more fashion than ever, but finding a genuinely good deal can still take far too much time. Discounted products are scattered across different retailers, prices appear in different currencies, and shoppers often have to search multiple websites before finding the right item. Even after discovering something interesting, making the final decision can feel surprisingly lonely. There is no friend beside you to ask, “Does this look worth it?” or “How would you style this?”

I created Crazy Sajangnim to make that experience easier and more social. It is a fashion-discovery platform that brings discounted designer products from Korean and U.S. retailers into one place. Rather than visiting numerous stores separately, shoppers can explore sale items through a single interface and filter them by market, brand, category, and gender. The platform processes product information—including the brand, price, currency, category, image, retailer, and intended market—so users can spend less time searching and more time discovering fashion they actually want to wear.

One of Crazy Sajangnim’s central features is its Korean and American market support. Fashion shoppers often discover that a brand or product available in Korea may have a different price, selection, or discount in the United States. Crazy Sajangnim helps organize Korean listings in KRW and American listings in USD, allowing users to browse the market that is most relevant to them. This cross-border approach is especially useful for people interested in Korean fashion as well as international designer brands.

The platform is also designed to support an expanding selection of brands. Alongside established labels, Crazy Sajangnim can help shoppers discover smaller, emerging, or regionally popular designers that may be difficult to find on large international shopping platforms. New brands can be added through the administrative system, while aliases and product-inference logic help identify and organize search results by brand, category, gender, price, and currency.

However, Crazy Sajangnim is intended to become more than another list of products. Online shopping is convenient, but it often separates product discovery from the conversations that make shopping enjoyable. When people shop together in person, they exchange opinions, compare options, discuss fit, suggest outfits, and sometimes prevent each other from making regrettable purchases. Most online stores do not recreate that experience, so those conversations move to social media, private messages, or separate fashion communities.

Crazy Sajangnim brings shopping and fashion discussion closer together through its community and blog features. Shoppers can share clothing photos, reviews, fit notes, styling ideas, sale discoveries, and honest opinions about whether a product is worth purchasing. Someone considering a jacket could ask how it fits, another user could explain how they styled it, and someone who found it at a better price could share the discovery. My goal is to make browsing the platform feel less like scrolling alone and more like shopping alongside other fashion enthusiasts.

The story behind the name reflects the same playful spirit. “Sajangnim” is the Korean word “사장님,” an honorific commonly used to address a business owner, store owner, or boss. “Crazy Sajangnim” was inspired by the familiar Korean promotional expression “사장님이 미쳤어요,” which literally means “The boss has gone crazy.”

In Korea, stores and advertisements often use this phrase when promoting unusually large discounts. The joke is that the price has been reduced so dramatically that the owner must have lost their mind to approve it. It is loud, humorous, memorable, and deeply connected to Korean discount culture. You might see the expression on a sign outside a store, in an online sale banner, or in an advertisement announcing prices that seem almost too good to be true.

That phrase became the foundation of Crazy Sajangnim. The name represents the excitement of discovering a discount so surprising that your first reaction is, “Why is this so cheap?” It also gives the platform a distinctly Korean identity while remaining understandable and memorable to international users. Rather than choosing a conventional luxury-shopping name, I wanted something playful that captured the emotional moment of finding an exceptional deal.

The name also reflects the personality I want the product to have. Designer fashion can sometimes feel exclusive, overly serious, or intimidating. Crazy Sajangnim takes a more approachable direction. It celebrates fashion without suggesting that people must pay full price, follow every trend, or shop alone. The platform is for people who enjoy the search itself—the excitement of discovering an overlooked item, finding a favorite designer at a better price, and sharing that discovery with someone who understands why it matters.

Crazy Sajangnim currently combines four main ideas: designer-sale discovery, Korean and U.S. market browsing, intelligent product organization, and community-based shopping. Its supporting technology includes product search, automated product classification, Supabase for user and content services, Google social login, and Vercel deployment. Together, these features create the foundation for a platform that connects fashion commerce, cross-border discovery, and real conversations between shoppers.

I built Crazy Sajangnim because I wanted to solve a problem I experienced personally. I enjoy discovering fashion, but I found myself moving repeatedly between retailers, comparing currencies, checking whether products were actually discounted, and searching elsewhere for reviews or styling advice. I believed those separate steps could become one connected experience.

This is still the beginning of the platform. I plan to continue improving search performance, expanding brand and retailer coverage, refining Korean and U.S. product comparisons, and developing the community experience. In the future, Crazy Sajangnim could also support personalized recommendations, price-drop alerts, saved products, affiliate partnerships, richer retailer comparisons, and more ways for shoppers to help one another make confident purchasing decisions.

Ultimately, Crazy Sajangnim is built around a simple idea: finding fashion should be easier, and online shopping should not have to feel lonely. It brings scattered designer discounts together while giving shoppers a place to exchange the opinions and discoveries that normally happen when friends shop side by side.

And when the platform uncovers a deal that seems almost unbelievable, its name explains the feeling perfectly:

사장님이 미쳤어요 — the boss has gone crazy.
