Relying on oldly SMS and phone companies a the master lock for your accounts it's not a good idea. Depending on the technology used, gprs, 3G, 4G... , SMS can be sniffed — be aware that most phones will automatically fallback to an older technology if it can't maintain a connection in the newer one and an attacker can force that behavior using a selective frequency inhibitor — and sniff the both the request and the code.
Moreover the security most phone companies have in place to reissue a SIM card is quite low, if you know your target and you want his to cancel and reissue his SIM card it is usually pretty straight forward process.
@abetancort we hear you. I've mentioned this a few times on the thread, but it's just our starting point. We're eyeing other places to reach people for all the reasons you cite.
@junetic yes, you can add your logo and brand colors (which styles UI elements like the activity indicator).

@withcopper Nice idea, but what if I'm skeptical about a website and don't want to give away my phone number? Do you know most people (like me) are okay to share the email addresses but won't give phone numbers because those are our privacy. We'll only give the numbers when told a reason like amazon asks to send us courier updates.
I won't be signing up to a website which asks my mobile where I'm not sure what they do with my number. :(
As you have never mentioned specifically about mobile in your product, You could try the same with "Email" also.
Thank you.
