I scanned 661 websites with an AI UX tool. None scored above 60. Here's what we found.

Over the past few months I’ve been running an AI-powered UX diagnostic on websites across industries.

The results were surprising — even to me.

The numbers:

  • 661 sites scanned

  • Average clarity score: 42/100

  • 0 sites broke 60

  • Lowest score: 34. Highest: 57.

The biggest finding:
Most sites fail not because of bad design — but because of unclear design. The site looks great but the visitor doesn’t know what to do in the first 5 seconds.

We even scanned Airbnb. They scored 43.
VRBO — way less famous — scored 57.

What actually hurts scores the most:

  • Headlines that talk about the company instead of the visitor

  • No clear primary action above the fold

  • Trust signals missing or buried

  • Cognitive overload — too many choices at once

I built Clarity Audit to diagnose exactly this — clarity score, heatmap, competitor comparison, and a ready-to-paste fix prompt for Lovable/Cursor.

Launching on Product Hunt next Tuesday, Oct 13.

Would love to know — what’s the biggest clarity mistake you see on websites?
