Caret - Open source Claude Design, synced to your repo

by•
Caret: a design canvas over your real code. Set your design system once, and every page you add stays on-brand. Click a headline and retype it, pick a colour, drag an edge: every change lands in your repo. Free, open source, runs on your machine.

Hey Product Hunt, I'm Precious, the maker of Caret. AI design tools usually stop at generating a screen. You drop that screen into your coding agent, it ships, and the design is gone. Nothing ties it back to the page it became, so on any app with more than a few views you end up syncing by hand. Caret flips that. Your designs are code too, kept in a ".caret/" design layer right inside your repo and tracked next to your app. Design and code stay in sync, and pushing a design change into your app is one reviewable step instead of a manual export. The part I care most about is consistency. You set your design system once (colour, type, spacing) and every page and component draws from it, so a project with fifty screens still looks like one product. On top of that: - A visual canvas: retype a headline, pick a colour, drag an edge - Flows and simulation to click through real states - An asset generator and experimentation canvas for the busywork It's a standalone desktop app, framework-agnostic, working over your real codebase, driven by whatever agent you already run. Free, open source, runs on your machine. I'd love feedback from anyone who's used Claude Design or another AI UI tool and hit the design to code wall. What would you want Caret to get right first? github.com/precious112/caret-desktop website:
