SocialChat by Buffer - Start conversations on your site. Keep them going on social.

SocialChat is a simple website chat widget from the team at Buffer. By simply copying and pasting a few lines of code, you can enable a chat widget on your website, blog or app. Visitors can then easily send you a Facebook message or Twitter DM, and you can turn those conversations into ongoing relationships on social media. No other tools needed!

Interesting barebones approach, but I'm not sure how this suddenly makes it better. Anyway, waiting for Instagram DM API to be a thing.

@igoruphere Thanks for checking it out Igor! And cool to know you're interested in Instagram DMs too.

Is it using same framework as buffer?

@jason_gerald Hi Jason! Great question. SocialChat is fully standalone and doesn't use any of the same frameworks as Buffer. On our team, we use Buffer Reply to respond to social media conversations, so in a way, the SimpleChat widget drives more use of the Reply product for us.

I can see the potential in this widget. It's simple and clean, but despite deleting my Twitter details from the widget, the Twitter DM option still appears; could be a bit slicker in that sense. I might be in the minority who only want to use Messenger, but if you delete Twitter it shouldn't appear in the widget (the live preview shows the widget properly, but when you paste the code it generates into a webpage both chat options still appear.

Pros:

Great way to engage with your customers

Cons:

When you don't want to add Twitter as a chat option it still appears in the widget
