BashCut - A native video editor your coding agents can drive

by•
BashCut is a native macOS video editor built for both humans and coding agents. Every timeline operation available in the UI is also accessible through its CLI and MCP server, with atomic, undoable edits. It combines a layered timeline, captions, color grading, audio mixing, voiceover, transitions, plugins, and docked Claude Code and Codex terminals. Preview and export share one AVFoundation composition engine, so what you see is what you export.

Hi Product Hunt! I built BashCut because AI coding agents are becoming capable collaborators, but creative desktop software still gives them very little reliable control. I wanted a video editor where a person can work visually while Claude Code or Codex performs the same edits through explicit, reversible commands. The difficult part was not adding a chat box. It was designing deterministic timeline operations, keeping preview and export in sync, handling media timing precisely, and making every agent action visible and undoable. BashCut uses a shared AVFoundation composition engine, plain JSON projects, a CLI, an MCP server, and an extensible plugin and editing-skill system. It is open source and currently available for macOS. I would love feedback from video editors, indie makers, and agent-tool developers—especially on workflows you would want to delegate while keeping creative control.
