Hi again, Hunters! I am back 😌 This month, I turned 29. Technically, I have been learning English as a second language (ESL) for about 20 years, since elementary school. While I have reached a point where I can watch movies, read medium articles, listen to trending podcasts, and have full conversations in English, I still feel like something is missing - confidence. The problem is, despite investing time and money into learning English, I'm not seeing the progress I need to break through to advanced English and achieve the fluency level I desire. I noticed that I'm not alone; many ESL speakers experience the feeling of being trapped at this level. People call this phenomenon the Intermediate Language Plateau. One of the reasons is that we've been trying to acquire the new language using a simple practice method, without really going deeper into it and using the language in context. For the past couple of months, I've been doing an English practice that I call "General English Sprint": - I look for text in my native language (Bahasa Indonesia) and translate it into English. - I use tools such as Grammarly or Quillbot to check my English grammar mistakes. - I then use tools such as Speechify or NaturalReaders to train my listening skills. - Finally, I use speech-to-text like Dictation to train my speaking/pronunciation by reading out loud. This method is quite useful for me as I spend 10-15 times a day deliberately practicing all the English language competencies based on topics of my own choice. While I see significant results from this practice, such as the ability to recall grammar and vocabulary and the ability to pronounce words correctly, I find the process to be quite a hassle. That's why I built AvidX to solve my own problem, to keep all the processes of "General English Sprint" inside one app with additional instant-feedback tailored for language learners in mind. Remembering that many other people struggle to advance just like me, I am launching AvidX for everyone to try. It's still in Beta, which is why I won't be charging anything for now. Please help yourself and give me feedback and suggestions to make this a real product!
