Hey everyone, I'm Matt and about 2.5 years ago I decided to take a stab at creating a beautiful and comprehensive budgeting tool using only Google Sheets. Initially, this was just a project for myself as I wanted a better way to budget and manage my money. Over time, as the features grew and I refined my technical and design skills in Google Sheets, I decided to launch my hobby project as a free budgeting tool (Aspire Budgeting). I also started a Reddit community where folks could get help budgeting and that has been very rewarding so far. As all these ideas were swirling in my head, I settled in a few key tenets for Aspire and have tried to stick with them through Aspire's development. 1). Be helpful - this meant creating a useful tool with comprehensive features, supporting its users, and making it available at a reasonable price. 2). Be beautiful - tons of spreadsheets and tools exist for budgeting, but as an experienced frontend engineer and designer, I knew I could create something that was enjoyable and distinguished. Every time someone opens Aspire - I want them to say "wow." 3). Be intuitive - if folks are intimated, will they stick around? I decided to make Aspire approximate a real life webapp as best I could. This meant using controls like dropdowns and checkboxes and reusing common design elements like sidebars and mastheads. Ease of use is something I strive for with every release. There's more to Aspire's story, but I won't bore everyone with the details. My goal with Aspire is to simply make the best budgeting spreadsheet in the world and help a ton of people.
