I built ApolloShell, a customizable desktop shell for macOS

Hey everyone! I’ve been building ApolloShell, a native desktop shell for macOS that brings a more customizable, Linux-inspired workflow to the Mac.

It adds a sidebar, dashboard, control centre, app launcher and configurable blocks, while keeping the underlying macOS desktop intact.

One of the things I’ve focused on is customization. The UI can be heavily themed with CSS, including colours, gradients, fonts, spacing, borders and panel sizes.

It’s completely free and open source, and currently supports macOS Tahoe 26 on both Intel and Apple Silicon.

It’s still early, so I’m mainly interested in seeing what people would actually want from something like this.
