Vector databases are amazing tools, but they are under utiliized. Alcove came about from a desire to search my local disk across file types: text, audio, photo, and video. The plugins system came after that. Alcove uses optional llm models to generate rich metadata on many file types. The most novel of these plugins is for analyzing audio for bird song using Cornell's ornithology models to identify bird species and migration patterns; all from throw away audio from a video call.
