AI Wattch - Track the carbon footprint of your AI prompts in real time

by
Every AI prompt consumes energy. Most people have no idea how much. AI Wattch is a free, open-source browser extension that tracks the energy consumption, carbon emissions, and water usage of your ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini conversations — in real time, as you type. Co-Developed by Antarctica and IT Climate Ed, and built on Antarctica's One-Token Methodology, it translates your AI activity into clear, actionable data: energy used, carbon emitted, and efficiency per model and session.

I built AI Wattch because my students and enterprise clients kept asking me the same question: "how much carbon do my AI conversations use?" — and there was no simple answer. I'm a sustainable IT consultant. I spend my days helping sustainability professionals, large tech companies, governments, and financial institutions measure and reduce their AI carbon footprint. You can find a lot of sometime conflicting information online, but nothing makes it visible at the prompt level, for everyday users. So I partnered with Antarctica to build it. Free, open source, privacy-first. AI Wattch got featured at the GreenIO2025 conference in NYC, then in the Green Software Foundation and GreenIO newsletters. Built a real-science based methodology. We shipped v2 with multi-model and multi-browser support. Now we're ready to bring it to a wider audience — starting with Earth Day 2026. Would love your feedback on the methodology, the UX, and what models you'd want us to support next.
