Why is almost all sales automation startups are focused on lead gen tools?

by

Scroll through PH, X, or linkedin and it's the same story: another AI tool to find leads, another AI tool to scrape emails, another AI tool to write cold outreach at scale.

But lead gen is maybe 10% of what actually makes a sales org work. Nobody's really building for:

  • Follow-up sequencing that doesn't feel like a bot

  • Deal qualification and prioritization (who do I actually call today?)

  • Objection handling and call prep

  • Pipeline hygiene / CRM upkeep

  • Post-call summaries and next-step tracking

  • Custom deck.

  • Enterprise stakeholder management

  • Enablement and beyond.

It feels like the industry has already solved the "get more leads". Yet, reps will probably complain they don't have leads.

Curious what others think — is this a real gap, or am I missing tools that already do this well? What's the most annoying non-lead-gen part of your sales process that nothing seems to solve?

(Building something in this space myself, happy to share more if useful but interested to hear how others see this.)
