Why are privacy-first tools so rare in 2026?

by•

Hey everyone

I'm Musab, an independent developer. I'm about to launch a suite of online tools called Adawati (Arabic for "My Tools") here on Product Hunt tomorrow.

Before I do, I wanted to start a discussion about something that frustrates me daily:

Why do almost all online tools require uploading your files to their servers?

Think about it:

- Need to compress a photo? Upload it.

- Need to convert a PDF? Upload it.

- Need to merge two images? Upload it.

Once you upload, you have zero control. You don't know if the file is deleted, if it's stored on a backup, or who has access to it. Given how sensitive PDFs (contracts, IDs) and photos can be, this feels wrong in 2026.

So, I built Adawati differently. Every tool runs 100% locally in your browser. Your files never leave your device. You can even disconnect from the internet after loading a tool, and it will still work.

I'd love to hear your thoughts:

Do you actually care about privacy when using online tools?

Would you sacrifice a bit of speed/features for the peace of mind of local processing?

What tools do you use most often that still force you to upload?

Let me know — I'm curious to see if this is just my personal obsession or a real pain point for others.
