64 Types - The 16 personality types, extended to 64 with real science

by•
64 Types rebuilds the 16 personality types on research-grade traits. Each familiar letter is a Big Five trait scored from public-domain IPIP items, shown as a percentile against norms from 40,000+ people. Two letters the 16 types leave out, Emotional Stability and Honesty-Humility, make 64 types (e.g. INTJ-CM). Borderline scores are flagged, life-area pages cite research, and compatibility has no fake %. Free, ~8 min, no signup, in 33 languages. Optional $14.99 Deep Report.

Hi Product Hunt 👋 I'm the solo maker of 64 Types. I kept running into the same problem: the 16 types are fun and everyone knows them, but the research behind them is thin. Scores are continuous, people near the middle flip letters on retest, and the 4 letters miss emotional stability entirely, which is the trait most tied to wellbeing and relationship outcomes. So I rebuilt it: 1) every letter is a Big Five trait scored from public-domain items, shown as a percentile against open data; 2) two new letters, Emotional Stability and Honesty-Humility, make 64 types; 3) if you're borderline on a letter, the result says so instead of pretending. The thing I'm proudest of is what I didn't build: a compatibility %. The best data (Dyrenforth et al., 2010, 23k+ people) says similarity explains under 0.5% of relationship satisfaction, so the compare tool shows where two people differ and what's worth talking about instead. A question for you: when you got a "borderline" letter, was the retest-code explanation clear or confusing? I'd love feedback on that screen.
