I've been on reddit for 13 years.
For the vast majority of this time, it's been fun and easy to manage. But every now and then - especially when going through downtime - I get into a rut where I just load page after page after page and waste more than half the day on here. I'll open up /r/all and an hour later I'm on page 8 with no recollection of most of the posts I've scrolled through.
One thing that got me to cut down on browsing the news - and to some extent, reddit - was deleting all my news apps and subscribing to a daily newsletter. I'd get the day's top headlines, and if I want more I can always read more. But more often than not, I don't want more.
That led me to look for something similar for reddit. There used to be a 'reddit magazine' with selected top posts, but I couldn't find that anymore, and I couldn't find a service that I liked.
So I made one.
It's called 41 Words and it's a free daily newsletter that you can subscribe to here: https://41words.com/
As for myself, I've set aside an hour (give or take) per day to prepare the newsletter, hopefully cutting down on my own mindless browsing.
The newsletter template is evolving as I get feedback, I'd love to make it a positive experience for subscribers.
