I only have very general things in my plans. In fact, I can't even plan my vacation more than a month in advance. Everything is changing very quickly and it's great!

We always have enough things planned to take us out a few years, but prioritization is always fluid and driven by user feedback. Just because we originally plan to do something this year, doesn't mean we are going to force ourselves to keep to a roadmap when user feedback tells us we need to do other things first.

You can email yourself by changing the scheduling date in Gmail. I have this conversation with my future me because I noticed discrepancies between what I do and what I desire. Sadly part of the human condition is amnesia. Unless you put your goals on a vision board on the wall or change habits according to your desires, you will forget. Besides reflection, it shows you the development of your thinking; I call it the timeless self. If you are familiar with yogic philosophy, it is close to the Atman.

A long-term planning allows for visualizing projects with all their activities and time frames. Having a robust software solution for planning, you can track tasks, time, and even costs in one place for a year ahead or even more. For example, an online Gantt chart will help you illustrate your schedules and show the relationships between activities and current schedule statuses. You can build such a chart in Excel, Google Sheets, or more professional tool (GanttPRO).
