Is every product suddenly becoming an “AI agent”?

I was reading this recent @OpenAI article about Gartner naming OpenAI a Leader in enterprise AI coding agents: https://openai.com/index/gartner....

"Software development is becoming more agentic." This is a good summary of what is happening right now. We are moving from AI that helps you write faster, to AI that can take over tasks (actions, use tools, make changes, run tests, and bring the work back for human review). That is a very different behavior.
The article gives Cisco as an example. They used Codex for a big part of their AI Defense platform and reduced delivery time from several quarters to a few weeks.

Have AI coding tools actually made you faster, or just faster at making mistakes?

AI coding assistants have become part of my daily workflow, especially for repetitive tasks, documentation, and quick prototypes.

At the same time, I've found myself spending more time reviewing generated code than I expected, particularly around security, scalability, and edge cases.

For me, AI has become an accelerator, not a replacement for engineering judgment.

I'm curious how others are using these tools today.

What engineering work disappears when AI writes the code?

AI tools are changing what counts as engineering work. Writing code may take less time, while reviewing generated changes, tracing failures, correcting assumptions, and making product decisions take more.

The problem is that most of this work disappears. Tickets capture the request, commits capture the final change, and standups capture a compressed summary. The investigation between them is rarely visible.

Meridian is experimenting with capturing that activity locally and turning it into reviewable updates, without asking developers to maintain another reporting habit.

Which signal would be most useful to preserve: failed approaches, debugging context, review decisions, or the reasoning behind what finally shipped?

Just "AI" is no longer enough. Here is what Product Hunt is telling us.

I have been looking at what is actually getting traction on Product Hunt right now. The pattern is clear.

In March, OpenClaw products dominated the leaderboard. Anything with "Claw" in the name got votes. That was a land grab new space, everyone rushing in to claim a spot .

In April, that stopped. The "just build an agent" strategy stopped working. What replaced it? Products that do specific tasks inside workflows you already have .
