How do you catch overlapping tools before they pile up?

Went through a few companies' software subscriptions recently and found the same pattern every time: multiple tools quietly doing the same job, nobody having noticed. How does your team currently catch that kind of overlap a regular review, a specific tool, or mostly just luck?

I spent 3 weeks on "building in public" before launch and barely got any users from it

Posted daily progress updates, screenshots, behind-the-scenes stuff. Got likes, some nice comments, almost zero actual signups. Made me wonder if "build in public" is overrated for early traction, or if I was just doing it wrong.

For those who got real early users this way, what made the difference? Was it a specific platform, a different kind of content, or just consistency over a longer time than 3 weeks?

My Product Hunt KP jumped from 167 to 388 in under two weeks. Forum threads did almost all of it.

Pulled my own kitty points breakdown again since it moved a lot since the last time I checked. Sitting at 388 KP total now. Forum Threads plus 272, Comments plus 101, Reviews plus 10, Maker plus 6.

Ten days ago Forum Threads were plus 87 and Comments were plus 64, so the gap did not just grow, it flipped which category actually drives the number. A handful of threads are now outscoring every comment I have ever left combined.
