Human Stories > Algorithms for Music Discovery

Hey Product Hunt!

Just shipped Vibes - music discovery through human stories, not algorithms.
There are plenty of ways to discover music out there, but they're all algorithm-driven. Spotify's Discover Weekly uses your listening data, Apple Music has editorial playlists from people you don't know, and TikTok just throws random 15-second clips at you. I didn't like that and wanted something more human.

I wanted to build a place where you actually get the story behind why someone loves a song - like "this track got me through my breakup" or "heard this at 3am and it changed my perspective on everything."
Real context from real people, not just "because you liked X artist."
If this sounds interesting, would love your upvote!
Always curious to hear what other makers think about human-centered discovery vs algorithmic approaches.

What makes YOU light up on Product Hunt? Let's chat!

Hey Product Hunt community!

I've been noticing a lot of great discussions here lately that genuinely grab my attention. From building side projects and roasting ideas to deep dives into launch strategies and even insights from the Product Hunt team themselves, this platform is buzzing.

It got me thinking: What topics truly make you pause and want to contribute? What discussions here feel like a real conversation, where you're eager to share your thoughts?

Is it the nitty-gritty of product development, the ins and outs of a successful launch, or the broader startup ecosystem?

Do you use a coach, mentor, or just go it alone?

I'm building ClaritySMB because I experienced the power of business coaching firsthand. Having a coach completely changed how I approached my business, but at $1,000+ per month, it's just not realistic for most solo entrepreneurs.

Most business tools are built for teams. Most coaches cost $1,000+ per month. And most advice is generic fluff that doesn't actually help you decide what to work on this week.

Here's what I'm building instead:

A business coaching platform that gives solo founders the clarity and structure they need to actually execute, not just brainstorm.

How do you keep up with social media presence and building your personal brand?

All of you who are building a personal brand, I guess, keeping up with the onslaught of notifications is not the easiest thing to do. I personally open some notifications after a month (like today on Bluesky, Substack and Twitter), not to mention that I reply to some messages after months. It helps me keep my sanity. But it took me almost 4 hours to handle these today.

On the other hand, I manage ProductHunt and LinkedIn quite regularly.

Hey PH! 👋

Hey Product Hunt!

I'm the guy who turns those wild 3am "what if..." moments into actual products people can use.
Right now, I'm laser-focused on building things that solve real problems (a clich , I know).
My playbook is simple: ship fast, get in front of users, and iterate like hell.
Perfect launches are a myth.
Real feedback from real people using your stuff? That's pure gold.
Just droppin' Vibes (music discovery through human stories) and honestly, I'm more hooked on the building process than stressing about metrics. There's nothing quite like going from napkin sketch to live product in days, not months.
What drives me:

  • Building in public: the wins, the face-plants, and everything in between

  • Scratching my own itch (if I need it, someone else probably does too)

  • Keeping it stupid simple until complexity adds value

  • Shipping beats planning every damn time

  • Always up for talking shop about building, launching, or that wild rush when your side project suddenly has real users hitting refresh.

Have you ever had your launch cancelled or delayed?

Hey everyone,

Last year I released my first app and published it to the App Store, and although it took me way longer than planned, I couldn t be more grateful!

Backstory: I started developing a mental health app about a year ago and I added a coming soon banner to ProductHunt. I was planning on releasing the app in October and September had just started, so it was the perfect amount of time to get some users on the waiting list. However, at the same time I created the banner, I was just enrolling in the developer program and it really took too long. I lost track of time and my product launched here, but I didn't even have it on the App Store yet, so I lost those users in the waiting list, since they opened an almost empty launch.

Marketing for early stage startups

As the founder of an early-stage edtech startup, I've been a little "overwhelmed" with which social media platforms to stick with. I'm not sure which ones to invest most of my time into and which to steer clear of.

Given that target audiences vary between different companies, how successful have you found TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, Reddit, and even Product Hunt in gaining traction for your company? Have you spent the money investing in advertisements or "promotions?" Was it worth it?
I've gotten over 100k+ views on some videos, but they haven't been particularly effective in terms of conversions.
